ABOUT SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL OF GUAGUA
Chartered on March 29,1980
Dr. Letty Yap and Dr. Grace Pangilinan of Soroptimist International of Pampanga proposed to Miss Luz Un Ocampo+, a well-loved and respected businesswoman of Guagua, the idea of organizing Soroptimist International of Guagua. Knowing that at the time there were no active women organizations in Guagua, Luz accepted the proposal.
Qualified to become members were those who did not belong to classified service clubs, were at least 21 years old, of good moral character, a resident of Guagua, engaged in a profession either independently or in an executive or professional capacity either in private corporations or government agencies where she devoted 60% of her occupational time to productive work in the classification in which she became eligible. Luz was able to convince 21 qualified ladies to join the organization.
Forty-three years later, Soroptimist International of Guagua has continued to be involved in its community in facilitating programs that improve the lives of women and girls in Guagua and its neighboring towns.
The partnership with the local municipality, schools, PNP WCPD, VAWC Desks and MSWDO, has strengthened and widened their reach in the community and cemented their role in Guagua as a champion for women and girls. Popularly known as the “Blue Ladies'', SI Guagua members are highly regarded by the community for their dedication, philanthropy and commitment to serve.
Biennium 2022-2024 has seen an increase in younger new members. With its current president, President Christian Grace brings into the club a reignited passion to serve that brings both the seasoned and new members together for a common goal. With the new generation of officers and members, the club has utilized technology, both digital and traditional media, to reach more women and girls and make them aware of its presence that can change their lives for the better.
